    Our Process

    Here's How It Works

    01

    Tell us what you need

You can call us directly or fill out the REQUEST FOR QUOTE form. Your request will go to the right person, and will not remain in a general mailbox. We will call you asap or send you a more detailed form if we need more information.

    02

We work through it with you

You will hear back from someone who actually knows the product. Not a ticketing system. Not an automated response. A person. We will go over your requirements together: materials, quantities, application specs, whatever it takes to get it right. If we have questions, we will ask. If you have questions, ask us anything.

    03

    We get it to you

Once you approve the quote, we place the order and keep you in the loop. If anything comes up along the way, you will hear from us directly. Same number, same people, start to finish.

    1982Company Founded

Norstone was started by Samuel E. Firestone at age 55 after a career in the coatings and ink industries. The original name was S.E. Firestone Associates. The business began in the family home as a manufacturer's rep agency selling chemicals, media, and grinding equipment.

    1990Polyblade Innovation

Sam was given the opportunity to develop a polymer dispersing impeller for abrasive slurries and products that could not tolerate metal contamination. Working with a local TiO2 company, the impeller was modified to maximize blade pumping, using two durometers in one polyurethane impeller: a harder center for support and a softer, abrasion-resistant outer area. By 1994, the product was ready for marketing and was named the Norstone Impeller in honor of Norma Firestone.

    1992–1996Brand Expansion

Daniyel Firestone, Sam's middle daughter, joined the company to assist with sales. She trademarked the Norstone name for the Polyblade, expanded the line to specialize in teaching, testing, and grinding media, and began purchasing the company from Sam.

    1999–2007Patents & Trademarks

Norstone secured a patent and trademark protecting the Norstone Polyblade’s design and manufacturing process, and trademarked the names Blade Depot and Grinding Media Depot.

    2001Norstone, Inc.

Sam and Daniyel changed the company name to Norstone, Inc. after years of confusion with “S.E. Firestone” and consumer calls about tire service.

    2002Product Line Expansion

Building on the Polyblade’s success, Norstone expanded into custom parts, coatings, linings, ball mill ceramic brick, and ball mill relining for abrasive processes and metal-contamination-sensitive applications.

    2004–2006Leadership Growth

Daniyel Firestone was named President of Norstone, Inc., Sam Firestone was named CEO, and Molly Howard, Daniyel’s daughter, joined the company.

    2009–2016Innovation & Patents

Norstone entered a period of rapid product growth: it invented the Trapolene tank cover, patented the Turbo Polyblade, invented the Blade Guardian safety shield, and patented the HS Polyblade. Chris Howard, Molly’s husband, joined Norstone during this stretch.

    2023New Headquarters

Norstone purchased an 8,300-square-foot building in Norristown, PA for office, shipping, and warehousing, adding the ability to screen and wash grinding media for customers recapturing on-size beads from old media charges.

    2025–2026Third Generation Leadership

Norstone completed its leadership transition: Chris Howard became President and Molly Howard became Vice President, with Daniyel Firestone continuing as CEO. Molly and Chris Howard became 100% owners of Norstone, Inc.
